Disc parking

To park on the street in the town centre you need to:

• Obtain a clock disc from the TIC or any shop
• Set it to show the time of your arrival
• Place it on the dashboard where it can easily be seen

You then have either two or three hours free parking depending on where parked - please check the signs. 

Pay and display parking

There is a pay and display Car Park at Broad Close, the fee is £1.40 for two hours or £3.30 all day (at the time of writing); check rates here. 

Appleby is well located for the road and rail networks. 

By road

If using a sat nav the postcode for the centre is CA16 1YB.

From North East England, Yorkshire and the East Midlands:  Use the A66 from Scotch Corner which passes Appleby - follow the signs.

From Scotland:  Leave the M6 at junction 40 (Penrith), take the A66 eastbound and follow the signs.

From North West England and the West Midlands:  Leave the M6 at junction 38 (Tebay), take the B6260 into the town centre.

By rail

Appleby has its own station on the Settle to Carlisle line.  Alternatively use the West Coast Main line to Penrith then bus service 563 to Appleby.  This service runs every 2-3 hours Monday to Saturday from 08:30 to 21:10 (22:40 Friday and Saturday); however there is no Sunday service.  A timetable is available from Cumbria County Council.
